Gynecomasty
In males, female type breast growth is called gynecomasty. It is common today in men of all ages. The estrogen hormone is the most important factor affecting the shape of the breast both in women and men. This hormone is the predominant hormone in the body and allows the mammal to develop feminine characteristics. Testosterone hormone is dominant in men and there is estrogen hormone. Any decline in this hormone balance and an increase in the amount of estrogen in the male causes gynecomasty.
What are the main conditions in men with impaired hormone balance?
- Physiological, ie, due to hormones that naturally increase during adolescence
- Depending on the diet: Gastrointestinal hormones and nutritional disorders are associated with the resulting obesity
- It depends on the use of some medicines: Antifungals (Ketoconazole), Spironolactone, Antibiotics (Metronidazole), Antacids (Cimetidine), Medicines used in prostate cancer or hyperplasia (flutamide, finasteride etc.), AIDS medicines (Efavirenz) (diazepam), tricyclic antidepressants, heart failure (Digoxin) drugs.
- Chronic liver disease; the hormone estrogen is destroyed in the liver, and the deterioration of the function of this organ for any reason causes an increase in unbreakable estrogen.
- Alcoholism and drug use also cause liver damage, causing gynecomastia.
